Ahead of his final game for the Blues this weekend, Andrew Walker has paid tribute to Carlton coach Brendon Bolton.

The high-flying forward will hang up the boots on Sunday when the side takes on St Kilda at the MCG after announcing his retirement on Tuesday.

Walker praised the influence of his coach, suggesting he was confident the Club was on the right path under Bolton.

“I’ve been amazed at what 'Bolts' has been able to do in such a short amount of time,” Walker said.

“How quickly the players have jumped onto his messaging, I think that’s a key strength of Bolts. He is able to teach and get the guys to learn as quickly as possible.

“We were way off and he’s been able to speed things up. He’s got a really solid plan in place and a solid game style. One thing I can say about Brendon Bolton is he is a man on a mission and I’m confident he will get the Club to where it needs to be.”

The 30-year-old revealed the extent of his troublesome knee which influenced his decision to call time on his career, a year prior to his contract ending.

“I thought it was probably a little selfish of me to keep going on. It’s something that has been building up for a little while now,” Walker said.

“I’ve been playing with this knee for the last three years and it’s just deteriorating to a level that I was really struggling to be able to play."

Ahead of his swansong at the MCG on Sunday, Walker said he wanted to be remembered by teammates for his dedication to the field.

“It’s amazing how quickly you get the Carlton blood in you,” Walker said on 5AA radio.

“I want to be remembered as (someone who was) really driven and hardworking. I’ve always tried to set a standard in terms of training and pre-seasons so I hope if you ask my teammates, they say I was a hard worker and dedicated.”
