Northern Blues coach Josh Fraser rates the performances of all the Carlton-listed players who featured in the loss to Werribee on Sunday:

60. David Cuningham

Stats: 20 disposals (13 contested), 5 clearances, 4 tackles

From the coach: David was much improved with his offensive running patterns and was lively around stoppages. He’s getting closer to stringing four quarters together and continues to build fitness after an interrupted year with injury.

26. Matthew Dick

Stats: 11 disposals, 6 handball receives

From the coach: He obviously had a hamstring injury halfway through the second quarter which ended his day. Up until then, he was competing like we expect he would and gave us some run and drive.

31. Jayden Foster

Stats: 6 disposals, 3 marks

From the coach: He was beaten on the day by a mobile opponent who was willing to lead up the ground while he wasn’t able to adjust positioning. He’s been able to respond in recent weeks though, so we’re looking forward to a response from him.

34. Jesse Glass-McCasker

Stats: 6 disposals

From the coach: Similar to our other defenders, Jesse was out-positioned but having said that had some good one-on-one wins at different stages of the game. We continue to see positives in his game and development.

38. Billy Gowers

Stats: 15 disposals, 7 handball receives

From the coach: He was probably beaten in terms of defending his man and didn’t give same output in an attacking sense as we’ve come to expect. He had some uncharacteristic moments with the ball in hand, so he’s another one we’re looking for a response from.

48. Kristian Jaksch

Stats: 17 disposals, 5 marks, 4 inside 50s, 2 goals

From the coach: He worked his way into the game as forward option and was used down back at different times. He’s continuing to perform consistently at VFL level but needs to find ways and work harder in areas of his game to reach the next level.

14. Liam Jones

Stats: 10 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles

From the coach: He was down on usual output: while he hit up well to provide a target forward of the ball, he wasn’t able to influence scoreboard the way we would’ve liked.

80. Matthew Korcheck

Stats: 4 disposals, 19 hitouts

From the coach: Matty was probably out-positioned and out-bodied - normally his strengths - which was disappointing. We’re now judging his game more harshly which in some ways is a testament to his development.

51. Jed Lamb

Stats: 13 disposals, 7 marks (4 inside 50), 5 inside 50s, 1 goal

From the coach: He had a really good start on-ball and looked dangerous particularly early, but faded out of the game as it wore on and didn’t have the impact he would’ve liked. He’s a quality player so we’re expecting a big one from him this week.

19. Harry McKay

Stats: 5 disposals (all contested), 3 tackles

From the coach: He worked really hard and a few of his efforts in aerial contests were pleasing, where he was able to either halve the contest or win the ball. He had some strong defensive efforts which was another positive sign.

67. Clem Smith

Stats: 12 disposals, 6 handball receives, 2 goals

From the coach: I thought he was improved on previous weeks, where he had more impact on the contest and went forward for two goals. He ran hard offensively and provided a different look for us when he was on-ball.

76. Jason Tutt

Stats: 20 disposals, 8 handball receives, 1 goal

From the coach: He got some attention from the opposition by way of a tag and wasn’t able to work through it to great effect. He didn’t produce his usual output, so he needs to deal with closer attention from a direct opponent.

65. Dillon Viojo-Rainbow

Stats: 16 disposals, 3 inside 50s, 6 handball receives

From the coach: We’re still waiting for him to be real consistent in the contest: he showed his work-rate with his running patterns but needs to pay more attention in his application and influence on the contest.

42. Mark Whiley

Stats: 25 disposals, 11 handball receives, 8 clearances, 1 goal

From the coach: He tried hard around the ball but didn’t produce to the level we’ve become used to in previous weeks. He fought the game out and led hard from the front in his work at stoppages.

36. Cameron Wood

Stats: 10 disposals, 20 hitouts, 1 goal

From the coach: It was a patchy game where he showed some good signs at times but wasn’t really able to build consistency. Some of his ruck work around stoppages was impressive, but he didn’t have the impact around the ground which we needed.
