Nickname:
With one of the best names in the competition, no nickname was needed for the 2019 pick No.52.
Mua was a name frequently heard in commentary over her AFLW appearances in 2020, as the smiling defender added a new flair to the Blues' backline.
Draft day recap:
It was a nervous wait for Laloifi as one of the players in room at the draft as the numbers were called out.
Having missed a year of football through an ACL injury, the mature-age defender was eager to take her AFLW chance after a promising VFLW career at Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs.
At pick No.52, Laloifi's AFLW hopes became a reality and from there it was a whirlwind afternoon meeting future teammates and arriving at Ikon Park as a Blue for the first time.
“[The injury] seems like a world away: I don’t even think about it now," Laloifi said
“Last year was a different story and this year is a reward and a credit to the hard work you put in.”
“Actually coming back to Ikon Park in different colours, let alone at Carlton… I’m so excited. It’s all going to be so new.”
First appearance:
A strong pre-season meant Laloifi didn’t have to wait long to make her first AFLW appearance, the defender earning her spot in the Round 1 season-opener against Richmond.
Laloifi formed part of a strong defensive unit alongside co-captain Kerryn Harrington and up and comer Charlotte Wilson.
Finishing the game with her first win in Navy Blue, Laloifi kicked started a season in which she would play all seven games.
Best performance:
In a match that seemed to bring out the best in many young Blues, Laloifi found her best form in the Grand Final re-match played against Adelaide in Round 4.
Laloifi was tireless as a spare defender, crucial in quelling the Crows’ attack and flipping the game on its head, eventually helping the Blues finish the eight-point winners.
Collecting 14 disposals for her efforts away from home the defender set a standard for herself that would continue for the remainder of the season.
Best moment on social:
After a nervous wait on draft day before becoming a Blue, Laloifi met Darcy Vescio in one of the best interviews to come out of the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.
Joining Lucy McEvoy and Grace Egan, Vescio was eager to get to know the new draftees in the best way possible.
