THE inaugural NSW State of Origin team has been announced, with three Blues being selected for the side.

Michael Gibbons, Matthew Kennedy and Will Setterfield have been named by the selection panel consisting of prominent football figures Gerard Healy and Mike Sheahan – who were also involved in the selection of the Greatest NSW AFL Team of All Time in 2019.

Setterfield enjoyed one of his most consistent seasons in the Navy Blue, where he averaged 16 disposals and five tackles, while proving to be an important piece to the midfield puzzle alongside Sam Walsh, Patrick Cripps and Ed Curnow.

Gibbons also impressed in his second year at the Club, building on his consistent debut year with another string of reliable performances.

The 25 year old kicked 11 goals across his 16 games in 2020 and earned a one-year contract extension and promotion to the senior list heading into 2021.

Fans also saw what Matthew Kennedy could offer as a tough midfielder in 2020. While injury restricted the midfielder’s opportunities, he showed plenty of class averaging 16 disposals and two clearances per game.
