THE Carlton Football Club can confirm defender Nic Newman has signed a new one-year deal.
The 27-year-old will remain at Ikon Park until at least the end of 2021 after building a reputation as a player who leaves it all out there for the Carlton jumper.
Since arriving at the Blues from Sydney at the end of 2018, Newman has endeared himself to the Carlton faithful for the passion and effort he showcases every time he takes the field.
He missed just two games in his debut season for the Club last year, averaging 21 disposals in a role off half back.
A knee injury in Round 2 saw his 2020 season cut short but the Club and every Bluebagger looks forward to seeing Newman back in the Navy Blue next year.
“Nic is the definition of a player who does everything he can to get the very best out of himself. Those players have a fantastic influence on your football club so we are rapt Nic has signed on for next year,” Blues Head of List Management Nick Austin said.
“Since experiencing his injury early in the season, Nic has shown what a terrific club person he is. Despite being ruled out for the year, Nic took a hands-on coaching role with our reserves group and has been a great mentor for our younger players.
“We look forward to seeing Nic back on the field next year giving his all, which is what our members and supporters love about him.”
