EMERGING Carlton youngster Sam Philp has today inked a new two-year contract extension with the Club.
Despite still having one year remaining on his current contract, this new deal sees Philp commit to wear the Navy Blue until at least the end of the 2023 season.
After being selected at pick No.20 overall in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft, Philp made an instant impact in his first pre-season with his high work rate and speed around the contest.
Those traits ensured he did not have to wait long for his AFL debut, which arrived in Round 4 in a one-point win over arch-rival Essendon.
Born and raised in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, the humble teenager has endeared himself to his teammates from the moment he walked through the doors of Ikon Park.
Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin was pleased the Club was able to secure Philp for at least the next three years.
“We’ve seen some promising signs from Sam during his first two AFL games, but that is just a glimpse of what we see from him every day at training,” Austin said.
“His speed around the contest and tackling pressure is impressive and those strengths are only going to grow over time given how hard we see him work.
“We are excited to see Sam continue to develop as a player and person with the Carlton Football Club and for our members and fans to enjoy the excitement he will bring on game day.”
