A CARLTON trio has been nominated for the 22under22 side.
After being named in the final team last year, Harry McKay, Sam Walsh and Jacob Weitering will all look to make it back-to-back nominations following their inclusions in the 40-man squad.
Decided on by the AFLPA Board, this year marks the ninth season of the 22under22 team, grouping together the best young talent in the competition.
Having also made the team in 2016, Weitering is looking to become the first Carlton player to achieve three selections: he is joined by Patrick Cripps, Charlie Curnow and Madison Prespakis with two honours to date.
A certainty to be in the All-Australian conversation this year, Weitering has taken his game to another level in 2020, shutting out the likes of Jeremy Cameron, Tom Hawkins and Tom Lynch.
He is joined by his fellow 2015 NAB AFL Draft bookend in McKay, who made the team last year after being Carlton’s leading goalkicker in 2019.
The talented forward has kicked 11 goals in his last six games and has proved a handful for opposition defenders, ranking in the top 10 for marks inside 50 per game.
Then, there’s Sam Walsh, who’ll be looking to make it two from two in 2020.
Described by AFL Media’s Callum Twomey as potentially “the competition’s best wingman in the past six weeks”, Walsh has taken his game to another level after an already blistering start to his career.
Starring in his new role on the wing, Walsh has averaged over 20 disposals and just shy of a goal a game in the last nine weeks.
