CEO of the Carlton Football Club, Cain Liddle, expressed his excitement at the prospect of offering young footballers a unique development program combined with tertiary education.

“We’re fortunate at the club to have the facilities to run tertiary education courses on-site, making it possible for us to schedule a fully-fledged individual football development program, around a student’s academic commitments.”

“This new program is an unbelievable opportunity for any developing footballer to improve their game within an elite football environment, while ensuring they are progressing their lives and prospects away from footy as well”, he said.

The Carlton College of Sport Football Development Program offers the opportunity for any developing footballer who is keen to take their game to the next level to spend a year undertaking an AFL designed football development program at the Carlton Football Club, while simultaneously attaining a tertiary qualification.

Head of Development at the Carlton Football Club, Luke Power, emphasised the commitment of Carlton staff to develop both the person and the player.

“Students will have access to coaching staff, medical support and high-performance facilities that are usually only made available to full-time athletes.”

“Our onsite education campus at Ikon Park allows us to design individual football development programs that fits in with the requirements of first-year University,” he said.

Students will undertake football development activities for 1-1.5 days per week at the Carlton Football Club, designed to complement normal training commitments. These include but are not limited to:

  • Strength & Conditioning
