AFTER another week in Perth, Carlton is revving up for a big challenge against West Coast.

Assistant coach Dale Amos said it was vital to shut down an in-form West Coast forward line this Sunday at Optus Stadium.

With the Eagles winning four of their last five games, it’ll be a real test for the Blues who are looking to redeem themselves after last week's performance against the Hawks.

“Getting it through the midfield and reducing their forwards is going to be critical,” Amos said.

“They’ve got such a dynamic forward line who can all run, all really good on the ground and all catch it as well.”

“I think our guys are really excited for the challenge of playing the most in-form team in the competition.”

Keen to overturn what was described as the team’s worst performance of the year, Amos said it was important to focus on what had gone right for the Blues so far.

One of Amos’ key drivers down back has been Sam Petrevski-Seton, who is one of five WA Blues currently amongst the group.

“‘Samo’ had a full pre-season and the start of the season to really adjust to playing [across half back]: the thing that stands out when he plays is the calmness with the ball in hand,” he said.

“I’ve been really pleased with his growth, he’s showing the ability to defend well.

“If he can keep bringing that every week and we can just get the ball in his hands a little bit more, that’ll certainly help us perform at a higher level.”

Alongside Petrevski-Seton, Amos credits the growing maturity of the wider group in Carlton’s promising first half in 2020.

“Plowman’s becoming more consistent: Setterfield, Kennedy and even Walsh in his second year [are the same],” he said.

“We’ve been looking for those guys to become more even contributors for us and they’ve certainly taken some really good steps in the right direction.”
