I AM CARLTON because...
A competition asking supporters to complete the sentence "I AM CARLTON because..." garnered over 1000 responses.
"I AM CARLTON because…"
We were inundated with responses (over 1000) and Carlton Coach Mick Malthouse was given the unenviable task of selecting five winners.
Thankfully, he found the time to sift through every responses and selected the following as his favourite responses. Each winner received a signed copy of the Coach's new book, "Malthouse - A Football Life".
"I AM CARLTON because I embrace the diversity, passion, dedication and greatness that this team represents."
- Melissa Michaels
"I AM CARLTON because it's in my blood, it's in my dad's blood and it's in his dad's blood.
Growing up in the early 2000s, I didn't see a lot of Carlton success, but that blue blood kept beating away in my heart. I knew eventually there would be good times ahead. This is it. Now is our time. I'd spill blue blood to see our boys win a premiership.
Everything that you train for is for that one chance, that moment of glory, and when the silverware is lifted over Mick and Chris' heads with blue and white streaming down from the heavens, every man, woman and child whose heart beats blue will taste that glory and be engulfed by the greatness of the Carlton Football Club.
MENS SANA IN CORPORE SANO."
- Jackson Bates (pictured here with his friend and fellow Bluebagger Danny Aukema)
"I AM Carlton because for me, it's like a religion. It's entrenched in my soul. I can actually feel it. There is no way I will ever change."
- Sue Lochrie
"I AM CARLTON because I love this team. I feel their pain. I savour their victories and have grown up with it all. Now with Mick, I know the ultimate is only around the the corner. Hard work, determination and not accepting second anymore. My wife is Carlton, my two boys are Carlton and I AM CARLTON."
- Rob Prowd
"What else is there except for family?
Friends can come and go, even family can become estranged, but at the end of the day... there's always Carlton.
Whether dark times or good, there's always Carlton.
Rain or shine, there's always Carlton.
Happy or sad, there's still always Carlton.
Carlton is not a football club... it's a way of life.
You're either born with it or you're not, and I am fortunate enough to say... I was born with it.
Just like the love for a parent, there is the love and pride to be able to say... I AM Carlton."
- Shannon Inglis
