The Board of the Carlton Football Club confirmed this evening that Stephen Kernahan will remain as the Club President until October 2013.

Kernahan has a maximum of two years remaining as a board member and it was his wish to retire as President in October next year to ensure there is an appropriate succession plan.

“I believe it is in the best interests of the Club to set a date now as it gives everyone time to plan for the future. I am certainly appreciative of the board in supporting this decision and giving me their full support for another 13 months,” Kernahan said following the monthly board meeting at Visy Park this evening.

While Kernahan will remain as President for the next 13 months, Carlton will have a new look board in 2013 with four business people to become directors of the Club.

At tonight’s board meeting Ahmed Fahour and Luke Sayers were invited to join the board while Stephen Moulton retired as a board member. Moulton has been a director since December 2006.

Ahmed Fahour is the Managing Director and CEO of Australia Post. Luke Sayers is the CEO of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Australia and Vice Chairman for East Cluster, PwC’s Asia-Pacific network of firms.

At the October board meeting Ryan Trainor and Craig Mathieson will join as new directors while Mark Harrison and Ari Suss will retire from the board.

While Carlton will have a 13-person board in 2013, Kernahan said it was still the objective of the board to reduce the number of directors as per the strategic plan.

“Part of our five-year strategic plan, through until the end of 2015, is to reduce our board numbers, however our priority at this time is to ensure we have the right people involved with Carlton.

“Enlarging the board provides greater choice for succession that will benefit the Carlton Football Club and enable us to reduce the number of directors,” Kernahan said.
