In a bid to promote environmental awareness, the Carlton Football Club will lace up for Friday night’s blockbuster clash against Hawthorn with fluorescent green laces for the Club’s annual Green match.

Supported by Carlton’s official sustainability partner Visy, the Green match is part of the Club’s commitment to further promote the important role we all play in caring for our environment.

Carlton President, Stephen Kernahan said the Club was looking forward to promoting the partnership at Etihad stadium on Friday night.

“The Carlton Football Club has a strong relationship with Visy, and we are committed to educate, motivate and inspire young people to lead more sustainable lives through healthier lifestyle choices and increased environmental awareness,” he said.

“Our team has been hard at work developing a range of interactive and engaging activates that our fans can participate in at the ground, before the bounce to help spread these messages.”

Visy is also running the Recyclaball Challenge at gate 5. Football goers will be able to test their knowledge of recyclable’s with Visy’s innovative handballing competition. From here, four lucky contestants will be chosen to compete in the on-field Recyclaball Challenge for the chance to toss the coin at the start of the game.

As of 2008, Carlton has been running an innovative schools program called the Visy Effective Disposals Schools Program.

Led by a number of players, students hear from Visy Environmental Ambassador Chris Judd and are then led through a number of activities with the aim of this program being to demonstrate how primary school students can leave a positive environmental footprint, through increased awareness of recycling, water management and energy saving.
