CARLTON is planning to use follower Matt Kreuzer more in attack than on the ball this season, says assistant coach Mark Riley.

Riely told SEN Kreuzer had spent much time over summer learning how to play as a key forward.

"Horses for courses…the Carlton fraternity will see Kreuzer rucking and playing a key forward role but doing a lot better [playing as a forward] than he did last year," he said.

Riley said, at 200cm, Kreuzer was not quite tall enough to get first hands on the ball at stoppages. That task will fall mainly to Robert Warnock (206cm), leaving Kreuzer with more time to use his strengths at ground level.

He said Kreuzer's second efforts and general play at ground level were first-class.

"It's why we love him and his teammates love him."

Kreuzer last year returned to the Blues' line-up in round 12 after recovering from a knee reconstruction.

"I think he was a tad heavy when he came back," Riley said. "He's trimmed off, he's got that sideways movement back."

He said full-back Michael Jamison would recover from his back injury in time to play against Richmond in round one of the Toyota Premiership Season.

The Blues' Family Day is at Visy Park this Sunday.
