The Port Melbourne juggernaut continued on in round six of the Peter Jackson VFL, albeit at the expense of the Northern Blues on Saturday afternoon. The Borough led comfortably at every change in a powerful performance at North Port Oval where they crushed the Blues by 126 points.

Despite a lift in intensity and increased pressure on the opposition ball carrier in the second half, the Northern Blues were no match for the reigning premiers and could not claw their way back into the contest. Assistant coach Matthew Capuano was obviously disappointed with the heavy result and he lamented the inconsistency of the team from one week to the other. "When we come to play with the attitude and the intent like we did last week against Bendigo we aren't a bad side, but when we come with the attitude we did today against the benchmark team in the competition it's not going to end well."

An 11-goal final quarter by the Borough saw the margin extend to over 100 points as the 2012 Premiership favourites stormed home to extend their winning streak to an unprecedented 27 wins in a row.

Port set the tone early and took the most of their opportunities in the opening quarter. It took until halfway through the term for the Blues to register a score with Tim Totevski managing the only goal of the quarter.
The first half was dominated by ladder leaders Port Melbourne as they outclassed the Blues in every position on the ground, sending the ball into attack with purpose and piling on 13 goals. The Blues defence had no solutions for pugnacious Port big man Myles Pitt and he started off the game in fine form booting three goals in the first quarter and another in the second to register four for the half.
Over the course of the match, David Ellard worked tirelessly in and under the packs, extracting the hard ball with 23 possessions and laying 17 tackles. Adam Marcon also contributed well in the heavy loss while Totevski was the only multiple goalkicker on a bleak day for the Blues. Robbie Warnock battled hard all day kicking a goal and palming the ball down 47 times, while first-gamer Dylan Buckley was busy early with eight possessions and showing glimpses of what his career may provide. However, as the game progressed, he failed to find the football and also sustained a heavy bump. In describing Buckley's first game, Capuano stated that it was "good to see him out there, he's been in rehab since the draft and hopefully, the more footy he plays, the more comfortable he gets."

With the bye coming up for the Blues, Capuano said the coaching staff would not make any changes on the track in preparation for the next game, "We have to stick to what we know works for us. I think it's a point for us to probably have a sit down and have a look at things and for the boys to have a chat about about where we need to get better. Losing by 20 goals is never a nice thing but from our point of view we have to learn from losses like this and move on."
