The demolition team has left and the site where the Heatley and Harris Stands stood is now vacant. Visy Park is open at the Royal Parade end of the ground providing motorists and park users with a view across the famous ground to the Legends Stand.
From inside the ground the vehicles and trams can be seen passing by on Royal Parade as the view is uninterrupted across the parkland to the buildings on the western side of Royal Parade. Diners at Primary Café directly opposite the ground are able to enjoy a special view across the ground now that the demolition work is finished.
This demolition work has left a flat area behind the western end goals in readiness for the builders to commence construction of the elite training facilities and administration offices for the Carlton Football Club. It is hard to believe how quickly the changes have been made to the outlook of the venue. It is also exciting to know that in 12 months time the new facilities will be completed and there will be a new look to Visy Park.
While there is a construction site at the western end of the ground it will not impact on training or football matches at Visy Park. TAC Cup finals matches will be played at the venue as in previous years and there will be no interference to the playing surface in 2009.
The redevelopment is an exciting project for the Carlton Football Club and the community and the open space is proof that it is a reality.
