CARLTON'S Andrew Carrazzo says Brendan Fevola's eight-goal haul against the Pies showed impeccable timing.

The Blues' star forward is in contract negotiations with the club at present and Carrazzo admitted that his sizzling performance yesterday wouldn't harm his cause.

"He didn't miss out on the timing," Carrazzo laughed on Monday morning at the Blues recovery session.

"His form has been good even apart from yesterday so it's just a bit of a coincidence I think.

"He's in red hot form at the moment so we're glad he's on our team."

However Carrazzo wasn't speculating on the possible length of Fevola's new contract.

"We'd love to see him at the club as long as he can.

"It's up to the club to decide the specifics, whether it's three years or four years. They'll decide that."

The 24-year-old said Fev's standout performance was a far cry from the off-field controversy that surrounded the star earlier in the season.

"It's funny how things can change in three or four months. Fev's shown true character to respond to something like that and play the footy he has," Carrazzo said.

The club's 30-point win catapulted them into the top eight and while Carrazzo insisted that they're  determined to stay there, he knows it won't be easy.

"I think it's going to be a big challenge for us to stay in the eight," he said.

"I think now that we've got some expectation on us that's going to be the big challenge for us but I think that the only thing that matters for us is if we're there in round 22.

"If we're there that would be great but at the moment it doesn't mean too much."
