The Carlton Football Club wishes to advise that General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke has resigned from the Club.

Icke, who has been at Carlton since March 2007, has decided to further develop his professional career and is looking at opportunities within the AFL and outside.

“We appreciate Steven’s decision to further develop his career and understand his need to expand his knowledge and experience with a different organisation,” said Carlton CEO Greg Swann.

“Steven restructured the Football Department and has played an important role in the resurrection of the Carlton playing list since joining the Club in 2007. On behalf of everyone at Carlton I wish to thank him for the important contributions he has made to the Club,” Swann added.

Icke joined Carlton in March 2007 after six years at the Fremantle Football Club where he had been the Football Manager and General Manager Player Personnel & List Management. A North Melbourne premiership player in 1977, Icke has an extensive football and sporting background as well as experience as a leadership communications specialist.

“I have enjoyed by time at Carlton and leave with the knowledge the Football Department, and indeed the Club, is in a very positive position. My decision is about continuing to improve my professional career and it was important for Carlton that I make this move prior to the upcoming trade periods,” Icke said.

Carlton will commence the search for a replacement immediately.
