The Board of the Carlton Football Club today announced that it has appointed Mr Greg Swann as CEO.
Mr Swann joins Carlton after a highly-successful career as CEO of the Collingwood Football Club. He has accepted the terms of a three-year contract and will commence duties as soon as possible.
The President of Carlton, Mr Richard Pratt, said the Club is delighted to welcome Mr Swann to the Club and looks forward to working with him on the task of returning Carlton to its rightful place as one of Australia's greatest sporting institutions.
"Greg has the track record and the skills required to accelerate Carlton's rebirth. We see his appointment as a major step in building the new Carlton," Mr Pratt said.
Mr Swann said he is excited by the challenge of joining the Carlton Football Club at this unique time in its history.
"I see the current position of Carlton as being similar to where Collingwood was when I joined in 1999. With its new President, new Board and emerging list of young, talented players, the opportunity to assist with the rebirth of the Blues is a great challenge," Mr Swann said.
Mr Swann replaces Michael Malouf, who has served the Carlton Football Club as its CEO since 2003. Mr Pratt commended Mr Malouf for his contribution to Carlton through extremely trying circumstances both on and off the field.
"Michael steered Carlton through a difficult period, at a time where the Club was in severe financial difficulty and the team was struggling on the field. The Club wishes to place on record its appreciation of Michael's strong performance and the way he has turned the Club around financially and set it up for the future," Mr Pratt said.
"Michael has been an exceptional CEO, building a strong management team. He is very well respected by the entire Carlton family.
"Shortly after I accepted the role of President at Carlton, Michael indicated to me that his preference was for the Club to appoint a new CEO to allow him to move on to other opportunities. His view was that a change in senior management would help accelerate Carlton's rejuvenation. The Board and I shared that view and today's announcement is the result of that process. Michael will continue to work with the Club to ensure a smooth transition while considering a range of career options including a possible role with the Visy group of companies.
"On behalf of the board, management, sponsors, supporters and the entire Carlton family, we wish Michael and his family every success for the future."
The Carlton Football Club will schedule a news conference on Monday morning, at a time to be advised.
