Twenty-three players were on the ‘Carlton’ flight to Perth this afternoon when the team and support staff flew out to Perth. The 22 players selected in the side were joined by Richard Hadley, who has been named as an emergency, for the flight. Unless another player travels to Perth on a different flight, the only possible change to Carlton’s side for Saturday’s game would be the inclusion of Hadley for one of the 22 players named in the side.

The squad will train at the WACA ground in Perth at 5:00pm on Friday in preparation for the game on Saturday. For Hadley, or one of the other 22 players, the weekend will consist of training at the WACA and preparing to play the game, including involvement in all team meetings and planning, and then being a spectator for the match, the 23rd player.

If the Northern Bullants were playing on Sunday the emergency player would travel home on Saturday evening and play in the VFL on Sunday. However this weekend the Bullants play Williamstown at NAB Oval in Preston on Saturday afternoon with the game commencing at 1:00pm. So the role of the 23rd player is one of support in Perth.
