The Carlton Football Club is very pleased with the outcome of the AFL Exchange Period that was completed earlier this afternoon.

“We are very pleased with the trades we have made during the last week and believe we have made important decisions that will benefit the team going forward. Importantly we have recruited players who are very keen to be at Carlton and want to be a part of a successful Carlton Football Club,” said General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke.

“While the focus is naturally on the player trades, we have also improved our selections in this year’s National Draft and have welcomed new coaches to the club in the last week, making it a very exciting time for the club. We can now enjoy a break before pre-season training commences in early November,” Icke added.

Carlton welcomed midfielder/forward Andrew Collins from Richmond and defender Jeremy Laidler from Geelong during the AFL Exchange Period. In addition to the new players Carlton has also increased the number of selections in the upcoming AFL National Draft and also improved the position of these selections.

Leaving the club to seek further opportunities at other AFL clubs were Shaun Grigg (Richmond) and Sam Jacobs (Adelaide).

“It is part of the game now that when you have the opportunity to welcome new players to your club there has to be some who move on. To both Shaun and Sam we thank them very much for the contributions they have made to the Carlton Football Club over a number of years and we wish them well for the future.

“We now focus on pre-season training and the upcoming National Draft, where we have improved our position, as we prepare for the 2011 season,” said Steven Icke.
