The AFL Multicultural Combine camp was purpose built to provide the opportunity for 40 young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, within metropolitan and rural Victorian communities to engage in a unique football and life educational experience. Participants also had the opportunity to listen to some great coaches, past and present players in order to gain insight into what it takes to become an elite AFL footballer.

Past players such as Tom Hafey, Chris Johnson Peter Daicos, Leon Harris, Peter Gilson and Michael Hurley spoke to the players about the importance of maturity, professionalism and commitment as well as touching on the important skills involved in football.

Visy Park Played host to the final day of the camp, in which the boys involved played a practice game on the home of the Carlton Football Club. The teams were coached by Chris Johnson, Tom Hafey and Peter Daicos. Many boys attending the Camp had never played on a ground with such rich heritage and it was great to see the smile on their faces as they ran out onto the hallowed turf of Princess Park.

The game was played in great spirits and all coaches were inspirational in their words. The camp concluded in the In the Don Chipp Theatrette, with the closing address conducted by the Minister of Multicultural Affairs Mr. Nick Kotsiras and Michael Daniher, AFL Victoria Development and Planning Manager.

The Carlton Football Club was proud to be a host for such a great AFL initiative, and wishes all the participants the best of luck with their football futures.
