Carlton Captain Chris Judd has finished first in the Club’s annual time trial around Princes Park today.

The result is sure to  delight Carlton supporters while making other supporters a little uneasy for the 2013 season. Judd, who is always one of the first home in the time trial, showed he is ready for a tough pre-season with a performance that suggests he is gearing up for a big 2013.

The 29 year-old was a convincing winner, followed by Andrew Collins and Jarrad Waite, with David Ellard and Dennis Armfield rounding out the top five.

What was encouraging for Carlton supporters was the number of players who completed the time-trial, either this morning or last week. While a number of players did not complete the test at this early stage of the pre-season campaign, many more participated compared to this time last year.

“We are certainly in a much better position now than we were this time last year when many players were unable to complete the full pre-Christmas training program due to injuries and in particular post-season surgery. This year the majority of players are involved in the time-trial and will complete the pre-Christmas program with not many working to a modified program. This is a real bonus for preparations for 2013,” said General Manager Football Operations Andrew McKay.

The 3.183km time trial has been run around Princes Park by Carlton players for more than 25 years and is one of the Club’s most competitive pre-season exercises.

The players will hold their final training session at VISY Park tomorrow before heading off to Arizona on Friday for the Club’s high performance training camp.

Supporters will be able to keep up to date with the latest news from the Training Camp in Arizona through the website and via Facebook and Twitter.
