The Carlton Football Club has agreed to a deal which will see Sam Jacobs move home to South Australia to join the Adelaide Crows.

Carlton will receive Adelaide’s second and fourth round draft selections, numbers 33 and 67 in the 2010 National Draft in exchange for Jacobs.

Jacobs played 17 AFL matches for Carlton after making his debut in round 1, 2009. He was recruited to Carlton from Androssan via Woodville-West Torrens in the 2007 Rookie Draft. He was on Carlton’s rookie list and played with the Northern Bullants in the 2007 and 2008 before making his debut as a nominated rookie in 2009. At the end of the 2009 season he was elevated to the Carlton primary list and he played 13 matches in 2010, including the Elimination Final against Sydney and was also a member of the Northern Bullants VFL Grand Final side.

“We are disappointed that Sam wanted to return home to South Australia, he has developed as a player since joining Carlton and has been a popular person around the club. However we appreciate he is keen to return to his home state and believes he will have greater opportunity with Adelaide so we wish him well and thank him for the contributions he has made to the Carlton Football Club,” said General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke.
