Blues ring the changes
Carlton has announced its changes to the playing list ahead of the 2009 season
Michael Jamison has been elevated from the Rookie List to the Primary List. Jamison was recruited from Newlyn via North Ballarat in the 2007 Rookie Draft and made his AFL debut in round 18, 2007 after being elevated to the senior list. A nominated Rookie List player in 2008 Jamison has played 21 games for Carlton.
Cain Ackland, Clinton Benjamin, Luke Blackwell, Ryan Jackson and Aisake O’hAilpin have all been delisted and Jason Saddington has retired from AFL.
Jason Saddington retires from the AFL after playing 162 games, including two in his final year. He joined Carlton after being traded from Sydney for selection 50 in the NAB AFL National Draft in 2005. Originally from Mitcham and the Eastern Under 18s he was recruited by Sydney with selection 11 overall in the 1997 National Draft. Saddington played 142 games for the Sydney Swans between 1998 and 2005.
“Jason has been an outstanding leader at Carlton and a wonderful ambassador for the Carlton Football Club. His contribution extends far beyond the 20 games he played for Carlton and he has certainly set the standard for our young players to aspire to in the manner in which he approached the game and the activities associated with AFL football,” said Carlton’s General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke.
Cain Ackland played 21 games for Carlton after being recruited in the 2007 NAB AFL Pre-season draft. Ackland has played a total of 74 AFL games (41 with Port Adelaide, 12 with St Kilda and 21 with Carlton).
Clinton Benjamin was recruited to Carlton from Broome via Claremont with selection 51 in the 2006 NAB AFL National Draft. His two seasons with Carlton were interrupted by injuries and he did not play a senior game.
Luke Blackwell was recruited to Carlton from Mazenod via Swan Districts in WA with a father-son selection in the 2004 NAB AFL National Draft (selection 41 overall). Blackwell made his debut in round eight 2006 and played 23 games for Carlton.
Ryan Jackson was Carlton’s first round selection in the 2006 NAB Rookie Draft. He was recruited from Greensborough via the Northern Under 18s and he was elevated to the Carlton senior during 2006. He made his AFL debut in round 22, 2006 and played nine senior games.
Aisake O’hAilpin was recruited from Cork, Ireland as an International Rookie in the 2005 NAB AFL Rookie Draft (4th round selection). He was elevated to the Carlton senior list in 2007 but did not play a senior game.
“We sincerely thank the players for the commitment they have given to the Carlton Football Club during their careers and we wish them well going forward,” said Steven Icke.
A change has also been made to the coaching panel for 2009 with Assistant Coach Gavin Crosisca not being offered a new contract. Crosisca joined Carlton in 2007 and was Carlton's backline coach in 2007 and 2008 after two years as the senior coach of North Ballarat. Matthew Lappin has been appointed as an Assistant Coach for 2009 after a year as a Development coach in 2008.
“It is important that we acknowledge the work of Gavin in his two years at Carlton, in particularly the role he has played in developing our young backline. We certainly thank him for his work with Carlton and wish him well for the future,” Steven Icke said.
