CARLTON will take an open-minded approach into the upcoming trade and draft periods.
Come the end of the season, the Blues have been left with picks Nos.8, 39 and 44 as things currently stand at the draft table.
Already linked with a number of moves ahead of the trade period, Carlton List Manager Michael Agresta said the Blues wouldn’t rule anything out this off-season.
Speaking to the Road to the Draft podcast, Agresta said that included whether or not the Club would offload its first selection at the draft.
“There’s still a lot of water to go under the bridge,” Agresta said.
“We’re looking to improve our list in any way we can.
“Whether that’s going to the draft, trade, free agency — we’ll do what’s best for the footy club.”
Stating tongue-in-cheek that Carlton has “been linked to absolutely everyone”, Agresta said potential recruits would be targeted on a needs and requirements basis.
However, Agresta also said the Blues would back in the natural progression of the playing list.
“You can’t have too many good players on your list,” he said.
“We think we’ve got a really talented spine and depth through our midfield, plus our forward half is really exciting.
“We’re confident with our list that we’ll get some natural growth… we’re really confident with where our list is going.”
With the form the Blues showed in the back half of the year, Agresta said there were multiple benefits to winning — particularly at this time of year.
“We don’t talk about stages [of a rebuild]. In the back end of the year, we showed how talented we can be,” he said.
“Winning helps, everyone loves to win. Players talk.
“We want to be seen as a destination club and that players are interested in coming to the Carlton Football Club.”
