New Blue Andrejs Everitt admits it was an anxious time on Friday as he waited to find out if he'd be making the journey to Visy Park.

The 24-year-old was holidaying in Port Douglas as the clock wound down on the AFL's Trade Period.

Paperwork to trade Everitt from Sydney to Carlton was lodged with just five minutes to spare  - sealing the deal that this week saw Everitt don the navy blue.

The veteran of 79 AFL games says he's looking forward to meeting his new teammates.

"I've heard that they're pretty humble," Everitt told CFC TV. "I'm looking forward to getting out there and training, and being back in Melbourne with my family."

Carlton will be Everitt’s third AFL club. He began his career at the Western Bulldogs, before being traded to Sydney in 2010.

Several other clubs had expressed interest, but Everitt says he was swayed to come to Carlton after a visit from the senior coach.

"I think the main thing was that Mick came up and saw me,” Everitt said.

“He made the case as to why I should be in the Carlton jumper and it really hit home that I wanted to come back and play in Melbourne, and this is the team for me.”

Everitt expects he will head to Arizona for a pre-season camp with his new teammates in December. In the meantime, he’ll be living out one of his passions and keeping in shape – attending a kickboxing camp in Thailand.
