Coach Luke Webster and a number of players and staff from Carlton's VFL affiliate, The Northern Blues, braved the clippers on Saturday morning to participate in the World's Greatest Shave at Preston Central's Family Fun Day.

The team, which included co-captain Andre Gianfagna and 2012 Ford VFL Coaches Player of Year Award winner, Adam Marcon, shaved their heads to raise vital funds for the Leukaemia Foundation, the Northern Blues' recently announced 2013 charity partner.

The event was a complete success, with members and supporters of both the Northern Blues and Carlton Football Clubs getting right behind the boys to donate well over $5000.

"That's a fantastic achievement," said Webster. "We are extremely grateful to everyone who dipped into their pockets and contributed to this important cause."

Northern Blues General Manager, Garry O'Sullivan, added his words of congratulations.

"The Northern Blues are proud to do whatever we can to make a difference to the lives of people who suffer from leukaemia and other blood-related cancers," he said.

"Luke and the players did a great job in committing themselves to this campaign and we greatly appreciate the efforts of everyone who sponsored them, from supporters and friends to families and local businesses."

With their new streamlined look, the players' attention now turns to a practice match against Collingwood this Friday at Visy Park.

It's not too late to show your support of the Northern Blues' "World's Greatest Shave" team. Sponsorships can still be made at my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/northernblues.
