OVERVIEW
After beginning the year up forward Jarrad Waite joined Carlton’s “swingman” stocks, rotating through the back line by the season’s end. It was a frustrating year for the 31-year-old, with injury restricting him to just 14 senior games. Waite was sorely missed when he was out of the side, yet still managed 27 goals for the year to underline his importance to the team.

HE SAID IT
“Players have got a really strong belief in their fitness and their ability, when it’s getting tough, to fight and grind it out. We know we’ve got some really good scoring power and our defence holds up pretty strong, so it’s just that belief. Everyone has got to lift, and that’s what we’ve shown in the last couple of weeks.”

– Jarrad Waite speaking with Fox Sports ahead of the Elimination Final against Sydney.

THEY SAID IT
"I reckon his starting point should be somewhere through the midfield – a wing would really suit him. Then he can still go forward at stages, and he can also drift back and help out the backline.

"He'd be an awkward match-up on a wing. It'd be pretty daunting for some of the smaller blokes trying to play on him. A tall wingman can add another dimension to a side.”

– Former Carlton champion Mark Maclure on Waite’s potential role in the side.

SEASON HIGHLIGHT
Waite bagged a career best seven goals and took 14 marks against arch rivals Essendon in Round 11. He also finished the season ranked 4th in the League for contested marks per game.
