Chris Judd - Carlton’s greatest player of the 21st century - has inked a new one-year deal to play on in 2014.
And the Blues’ Brownlow Medallist, four-time All-Australian, triple club best and fairest and former captain has revealed he may build on his games tally beyond the 150th year of the club’s existence, body and mind permitting.
Judd put pen to paper in the office of Carlton Chief Executive Officer Greg Swann on Wednesday. He then articulated his thoughts in a revealing interview with Andrew Maher exclusively for CFC TV.
“Obviously there’s plenty of work still to go this year, but I’m really excited with the direction the club’s heading and looking forward to being a part of it in 2014 as well,” Judd said.
“You certainly can’t take your football for granted when you get to 30 and over, and I guess it’s safer from the club’s perspective to do things one year at a time – so both parties are happy with the way it’s worked out.”
Carlton’s General Manager of Football, Andrew McKay said Judd’s one-year arrangement suited both parties going forward.
“Chris is respected as one of the elite players in the competition, one of the best of his generation and he continues to be a great asset to the Club. We see him as an important figure in our team as it continues to strive for success ” he said.
Judd, who turns 30 in September, could not have given this club more over the six seasons and 111 senior matches since his much-heralded crossing of the Nullabor from West Coast to Carlton in late 2007.
But he stressed there was still much to be achieved before he called it a day as a Carlton player because he was still stimulated by the cut and thrust of League football.
“I think I’ve still got a role to play with the footy club and I think we’ve got some potential here to play some good footy,” Judd said
