OVERVIEW

2013 proved to be the most consistent yet for Lachie Henderson; illustrated by his third placing in the John Nicholls Medal. The 23-year-old was awarded Most Improved Player, the High Achiever Award, and took out the new D-I Count Award, which recognises one percenters.
One of five Carlton players to play every game this year, the “swingman” showed he was equally adept at keeping the competition’s best forwards in check, while also having the ability to kick goals and present a tall marking option at the other end of the ground.
Henderson topped Carlton’s stats for the year in marks, taking 153 in total, and he finished the year ranked third in the competition overall for contested marks.

THEY SAID IT

"Lachie is improving year on year. It will be a good test for him to see just how good he can become. It's a bit like a golf handicap: the better you get the harder it is to improve.
“But players tend to improve up until 27-28, they don't improve a lot after that, so at 23, Lachie still has scope to continue developing.”

SEASON HIGHLIGHT

Henderson kicked a career-high four goals against both the Gold Coast Suns and St Kilda this season, but the 23-year-old saved his best performance for the heat of finals, as he collected 22 possessions and took nine marks in the Blues’ Semi-Final against Sydney at ANZ Stadium.
Off the field, Henderson cleaned up on John Nicholls Medal night, collecting four awards including placing third in the Club’s Best and Fairest.
