Since being picked up by the Blues in the 2010 rookie draft, Ed Curnow has made his mark in the Carlton's midfield.
The 23-year-old, known for his pace and endurance, was given one of the toughest jobs on park this season – tagging Gold Coast Suns skipper Gary Ablett.
Curnow not only limited Ablett's effectiveness, the very next day he found the energy to hit the garden and do some landscaping – one of his passions away from football.
We caught up with Curnow and put him On The Spot.
Who was your favourite AFL player when you were growing up?
Gary Ablett Senior – he was awesome!
If you weren't playing AFL, what would you be doing?
Hopefully I would be finishing my Environmental Engineering degree and living on the Victorian coast.
What music are you listening to on your iPod?
Alexander Ebert, Cloud Control and Death Cab For Cutie.
What's your favourite movie?
The Harry Potter Series or Lord of the Rings. I have read all the Harry Potter books and I do prefer the books, but I thought they did a good job of making a film series out of it.
If you had to cook to impress someone, what would you cook?
I'd cook any kind of fish by wrapping it in foil and cooking it on the barbecue, then I'd probably serve it with couscous and vegetables.
Where is your favourite place to visit on holiday?
I love going home. My family lives 90 minutes out of Melbourne along the coast, and I visit them as much as I can.
Number one fashion tip?
Fashion? I don't know a lot about fashion .. but I like shoes that you can wear with both jeans and shorts.
What's the best advice you've been given?
Your past doesn't equal your future. Actually I stole that one from Luke Mitchell – but it's good advice.
If you were to give advice to any budding young footballer who dreams of playing AFL, what would it be?
Make sure that you have a well balanced life – ultimately it's better for your footy. You need to have interests outside of football, and for me that's landscaping and spending time outdoors.
When you're not at the Club, what are you doing?
I'll either be with my dog, landscaping the garden, surfing, eating or watching movies – and if I'm being good, I'll also be studying.
