VFL Update - Round 2
Northern Blues coach Luke Webster has heaped praise on “Iceman” Luke Reynolds, who sealed his side’s victory over Frankston on the weekend.
Reynolds kept his cool under pressure to boot the winning goal after the siren.
Webster says he never doubted the Carlton rookie.
“One of the coaches asked me in the coaches’ box if he would kick the goal and I backed the young kid in,” Webster said.
“Obviously he’s a very good user of the footy by foot and obviously a very good set shot as well.
“It was great for a young kid to take that pressure on board and put it through the middle and give us the win.”
Webster says on the whole, his team showed plenty of spirit, and that they are willing to play for each other.
While Carlton duo Brock McLean and Tom Bell pressed their case for senior selection.
“They (McLean and Bell) put in the hard work for four quarters, won the ball forward for us out of stoppages and won a lot of clearances themselves,” Webster said.
“When the game was up for grabs those two guys stepped it up.”
The Northern Blues now have two wins from two matches so far this season.
They next face Footscray at Whitten Oval on Easter Sunday.
