As Carlton looks to re-contract free agent forward Jarrad Waite, it has upped its offer to secure the signature of tall defender Sam Rowe.
The Blues, who are also in negotiations with strong marking key forward Levi Casboult, have put a two-year contract to Rowe, having originally understood to have offered a one-year extension.
Rowe is likely to accept the deal and stick with Carlton, having played all bar one game this season.
The 26-year-old is one of coach Mick Malthouse's success stories of 2014, holding down a key defensive post and often taking the opposition's most dangerous marking forward.
He made his AFL debut in 2013 and played 10 games for the season, having sat out the 2012 season as he overcame testicular cancer.
Rowe joined the Blues via the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, after previously been rookie-listed by the Sydney Swans for two seasons without a senior appearance.
A new two-year deal would tie him to the Blues to the end of the 2016 season.
Last week Carlton football operations manager Andrew McKay confirmed the club was in talks with Waite to remain with the Blues, saying they would like to sign the veteran to at least a one-year deal.
The club is also negotiating a new deal for Casboult, who falls out of contract at the end of the season and has enjoyed a breakout year.
Mitch Robinson and Jeff Garlett are among the group of Carlton players out of contract at the end of the season, although their futures are unclear after being involved in a late-night incident last weekend.
