Carlton vice-captain Kade Simpson finished the year on a high, by taking out third place in Carlton’s 2014 John Nicholls Medal.

At the end of the count, Simpson had been awarded a total of 76 votes, just four votes behind Marc Murphy who finished in second place with 80 votes.

The John Nicholls Medal went to Bryce Gibbs who polled 109 votes on the back of his outstanding season.

Gracious in his acceptance speech, Simpson began by thanking his fiancée Diana.

“She’s always a great support – whether we win or lose, she doesn’t really care too much! Thank you for always being there,” Simpson said

“Mum and dad still come to pretty much every game, so I’d like to thank them.

“Ever since I started footy they’ve always supported me, whether I play well or badly, they’re always there and full of support.

“It was a disappointing year in the win and loss record. I’m just looking forward to next year (with) a big pre-season ahead."

It’s the ninth time Simpson has finished in the top 10 in Carlton’s Best and Fairest, including winning the John Nicholls Medal last year.
