Recent Form
Both Carlton and St Kilda will be looking for redemption after suffering losses in Round 7.
Despite a final-quarter comeback the Blues went down to Collingwood by 34-points at the MCG, while the Saints copped a 145-point thrashing at the hands of Hawthorn.
St Kilda’s Lenny Hayes told AFL.com.au that his side will learn from it and will be aiming to bounce back against the Blues.
"We want to get to where they (Hawthorn) are and that's what we'll look at long term as a group," Hayes said.
"We've got to be as good as they were today, we got taught a lesson.
"They applied really good pressure and we didn't handle it. We've got to get a lot better at that."
It has been a patchy start to the season by both clubs. St Kilda has three wins on the board after victories over Melbourne, GWS and Essendon, while Carlton has notched up two come-from-behind wins over the Western Bulldogs and West Coast.
With the Monday night fixture offering both teams an extended break to regroup and recharge, it’s shaping as a tough encounter at Etihad Stadium.
Last year’s corresponding Monday night clash between Carlton and St Kilda after Mother’s Day drew a crowd of 35,054.
Team Changes
The Saints will be without Jarryn Geary who has joined the club’s growing injury list.
Geary is set to be sidelined for 3-4 months after surgery on his injured elbow.
Meanwhile Sam Fisher’s delayed start to the season will be extended – he’s set to miss up to six weeks after re-aggravating a hamstring injury.
Round one Rising Star nominee Luke Dunstan looks set for inclusion in the side. He missed St Kilda’s Round 7 loss to Hawthorn after being concussed at training.
The Saints have named Dunstan along with Terry Milera, Cameron Shenton, Josh Bruce, Arryn Siposs and Brodie Murdoch in their 25-man squad.
Tom Simpkin and Shane Savage have been omitted.
Carlton has named Chris Yarran and David Ellard to return from injury in its extended 25-man squad.
The Blues have also included Dennis Armfield, Jaryd Cachia and Matthew Watson.
Tom Bell has been ruled out with a finger injury while Kane Lucas has been omitted.
The final teams will be announced on Saturday afternoon.
