Brock McLean says the Blues won’t be spending any of this week feeling sorry for themselves after last night’s loss to Port Adelaide.
After a solid start Carlton couldn’t hold on, going down 12-15-87 to Port’s 18-12-120.
The side now has a 10-day break ahead of a Round 2 showdown with Richmond at the MCG.
McLean says the team will spend the time freshening up and analysing where they went wrong.
But he says there were some positives to take from the game.
“We were really happy with the way we played our first quarter,” McLean said.
“There were certain patches in the second and third quarters, especially when they got a bit of a run-on, that we were able to fight back and play some really good footy ourselves.
“I think it’s just we need to be a bit more consistent over the whole game, and put things in place that when sides get a run-on, that we’re able to react a bit quicker and get the game back on our terms.”
The match got off to a promising start with new recruits Dale Thomas and Andrejs Everitt booting the opening two goals.
Thomas finished with 16 disposals and McLean says he expects Daisy will be better for the run.
“He’s (Thomas) had a really good pre-season and he’s brought a lot of knowledge to the club,” McLean said.
“It’s not going to be something where he comes in and has 30 straight away – it’s going to take a bit of time for him to fit well into the side, but with another game under the belt he’ll be better for that.”
