Carlton chief Greg Swann has called for the Blues to show consistency in effort this weekend, as the club looks to fight back from its disappointing start to the season.
Criticism has come thick and fast in the wake of the Round 4 loss to Melbourne.
Swann says while the team appears to be lacking in confidence, that’s no excuse.
“There’s no point hiding,” Swann told 3AW.
“We’ve served up two pretty poor performances and we need to explain that to the members.
“Obviously we’re putting ourselves out there to talk about what’s gone wrong and how we hope to fix it and go forward.”
All areas of the club have been in the firing line, from players to officials – along with the contentious issue of recruiting.
But Swann pointed out the club added four first round draft picks ahead of this season: Thomas, Everitt, Docherty and Cripps – and he says the club will keep bringing in players until the mix is right.
Meanwhile the Blues’ CEO has moved to reassure fans that the season is far from over.
“All we’ve said all the way through is we want to get better,” Swann said.
“Unfortunately for us we haven’t this year, we’ve started off poorly – but that’s always been the goal.
“We haven’t chucked the season in. I’m not sitting here going to make grandiose promises – but we want to win. We want to beat the Bulldogs this week.”
