Andrew Carrazzo and Bret Thornton both enjoyed milestone matches in the season opening victory over Richmond at the MCG.

Carrazzo captained the Blues in the 56-point victory and his 40 possession game earned him best on ground status from a number of media outlets. Carrazzo became the 156th player to play 100 games for Carlton and the 16th to reach the 100 game milestone in a game against Richmond. At 26 years and 100 days he is the 65th youngest to play 100 games for Carlton.

Thornton became the 67th player to play 150 games for Carlton and the 9th player to reach the milestone in a match against Richmond. With Carlton’s victory he became the first of these nine players to enjoy a victory in his 150th milestone game against Richmond. Others who also reached this milestone in a match against Richmond but did not enjoy a victory include Stephen Kernahan, Craig Bradley, Andrew McKay and Ian Collins.

Carlton’s was the youngest side in the season opener, 30 days younger on average than the Tigers. The average age of Carlton’s 22 players was 23 years and 252 days while the Richmond 22 had an average age of 23 years and 282 days. The victory was Carlton’s 118th against the Tigers in their 204 matches since 1908 and was the Blues fourth round one match in the last six seasons.
