OVERVIEW
After stamping herself as one of the competition’s premier rucks in 2019, Downie was once again a consistent face for the Game Changers.
Maintaining her 100 percent record for the Blues for the fourth straight season, the veteran progressed to 30 career games as part of an ominous ruck partnership alongside Breann Moody.
With Moody stepping up to be ranked No.3 in the competition for hitouts, Downie played her role as professionally as ever, providing a marking option up forward or stepping up when required at the centre bounce.
You don’t need to look further than the fact that Carlton won the hitout count in every single game this season to see that Downie and Moody gave the Blues a clear advantage at the source.
Once again in Carlton’s leadership group, the 35-year-old was just as valuable off the field for the Game Changers as she was on it.
BEST PERFORMANCE:
Carlton headed to the Whitten Oval looking for a response against the Western Bulldogs, and the Blues delivered on the back of their senior players.
As the Blues were coming off their first ever loss to Collingwood, Downie was critical as the Game Changers gained the midfield ascendancy in a 21-point win.
Individually, Downie finished with nine disposals and 14 hitouts, with the Blues running away with a valuable victory on enemy territory.
The Game Changers’ took control from the centre bounce thanks to Downie and Moody’s work, having 33 more disposals and nine more inside 50s than the Bulldogs over the course of the day.

A key feature of Downie’s game was her ability to provide the Game Changers with a target around the ground, taking 14 marks from her seven marks.
The best clearly came in the season opener in Richmond, where Downie used her experience and height to her absolute advantage.
Holding off her opponent with one arm, she clunked a mark with the other hand, going back and slotting the goal to seal a comprehensive victory for the Old Dark Navy Blues.
