THE loyalty of Bluebaggers has never been more true or more important.

That shone through and was never more evident than on Tuesday.

With so much uncertainty in the football world, CEO Cain Liddle shared some insight into the reaction from the Carlton supporter base.

He said the response “might surprise some people”, but not others.

“Our membership grew by more than 50 yesterday… we had more than 50 people call the Club yesterday and say ‘I want to support the Club, I want to get on board’,” Liddle said.

“We had already hit our membership record this year. There’d be an argument that we had satisfied a whole heap of demands.

“We’re not privately owned. No-one is sitting back and earning dividends from our members’ investment. That money goes to running the Club our members own.”

Liddle said that in an unprecedented situation, clubs are continuing to look at ways to add or defer value to existing memberships.

He also outlined a deal which the AFL was in the process of organising with Kayo.

“You can be rest assured that clubs are looking after their people internally from a safety perspective,” he said.

“The next point of consideration became our members.”

As things stand, Liddle said Carlton is preparing to play Richmond in the AFL season opener tomorrow night.
