AFL SENIOR Coach David Teague has provided his thoughts on the Club’s pre-season and how his side is placed heading into Round 1.
Carlton’s Marsh Community Series wrapped up on Sunday night, with a bright Blue opening cancelled out by a late Brisbane flurry in a 45-point loss.
While lamenting the lack of consistency from the Blues, Teague said the coaching staff was heartened by the positive signs shown early in the game.
Speaking to 3AW, Teague said it was hardly time for panic stations at Ikon Park.
“We believe strongly in the game style and we think that we can be really competitive, we’re going to be competitive in every game we run out in if we play to our best,” Teague said.
“We played some pretty good footy, we just haven’t done it consistently for four quarters at the moment.
"That’s what the practice games are about, [they’re] about getting better.
"The snapshot was in both halves.

“We’ve got that footy in us and I think our players have that belief.”
Carlton rotated 32 players through the side over the course of the two games, while limiting rotations in the clash with Brisbane (only playing with 22 players at any given time).
Here’s what the Senior Coach had to say about certain Blues and how their pre-seasons stacked up.
Mitch McGovern: "Possession-wise, he didn’t have a big influence but some of the things that he did… we actually need more players like Mitch.
"Some of his defensive positioning and pressure was quite strong. It was his first run and we only see him getting better and better.
"As much as we get seduced by stats, you’ll probably find he’s not a massive stat player but he’s important with his touches and the way he plays."
Paddy Dow: "He was reasonably solid early. I think Paddy is progressing quite well: he’s only in his third year as an AFL footballer.
"You’ll probably get sick of me saying this but I think too many people get seduced by possessions. We want our players to play roles and sometimes your role is to win the ball, other times it’s to hold balance.
'We’re still looking for the right balance in terms of how many mids we play: Zac Fisher and Paddy Dow probably spent a bit more time forward than in the midfield."
Sam Petrevski-Seton: "Samo played three quarters in the VFL before.
"He’s back in the mix and will be putting his hand up for Round 1.
"We want to take a pretty fit side into Round 1 so we’ll have a look at what that balance looks like."
Tom De Koning: "He’s definitely been putting his hand up. He’s someone who we really believe in.
"He’s a great talent and we’re really excited about the prospect of him. He showed some good contest in the air and follow up on the weekend."

Sam Docherty: "He’s done a really good job considering he hasn’t played for a couple of years. He had a really good pre-season.
"I know our fans might be a little bit disappointed with the game results, but our pre-season and the way the guys have been training gives us coaches confidence that we’re going to be better come Round 1, 2, 3 and for the entire season.
"He has led that and we can see him slowly getting better each game."
