Bryce Gibbs has spoken for the first time about why he decided not to nominate for this year’s leadership group.

A Carlton leader for a number of years, the former number one draft pick has told CFC TV’s new feature program, Inside Carlton, that it was a tough decision to step down.

“I chose to step away, purely to get my own back yard right,” he said.

“As a leader, you strive to play consistent footy each weak and probably at times I felt I wasn’t doing that this year, so found it hard to give guys feedback...”

Inside Carlton will feature a series of in-depth interviews with players and coaches throughout 2013.
