THE Blues’ enduring links with Italy continue to be celebrated, with the Club becoming an official patron for Italian culture magazine Segmento’s upcoming event NotteZero.
Held at Segreto Basement in Melbourne on March 2, NotteZero will offer delicious food and wine, activations and entertainment in celebration of the three-year anniversary of Segmento, which has played an important role in the Italo-Australian community.
As an official patron, Carlton will support featured artist Jonathan Di Maggio, a talented and passionate photographer of Italian origin from Melbourne’s north.
It’s a fitting collaboration for the Blues, who can lay claim to the greatest Italian representation of any club.
A total of 30 Carlton players of Italian origin – including the game’s one and only Italian-born footballer Peter Bevilacqua – have donned the famous dark navy blue guernsey.
The Blues’ home base, Ikon Park, flanks what was also once a tight-knit enclave of Italian migrants, who first took refuge in neighbouring streets like Lygon and Canning.
Carlton Media’s Bloodlines documentaries showcase the Club’s rich Italian history through the roots of current players Jack Silvagni and Darcy Vescio – the latter also featuring on the cover of the first-ever edition of Segmento Sport.
