CARLTON’S VFLW side recorded its fourth win of the season with a resounding 41-point victory over Richmond at Ikon Park on Saturday.
The Blues led for the entire afternoon, doing the damage in the first two quarters on the way to a 7.10 (52) to 1.5 (11) result.
It was Carlton’s second win in as many games at Ikon Park, following a five-goal win over Williamstown a fortnight ago.
In-form captain Kristi Harvey got the ball rolling with the opening goal of the game, before Darcy Vescio was quick to follow and get in on the act.
Two goals in 30 seconds opened up a 25-point lead over Richmond, which the Tigers never looked like pegging back.
Vescio recorded multiple goals for the third straight week with her goal in the second quarter, while Carlton’s defence was resolute.
Its back six restricted the Tigers to a goalless first half, before Richmond finally got on the board halfway through the third quarter.
However, the final two goals of the game ensured Carlton came away with the victory. It leaves the Blues outside the top eight only on percentage, although the Blues have played an extra game.
Sarah Hosking was combative as ever in the clinches, launching the Blues forward from the middle at the feet of Celine Moody.
Nat Plane and Gabriella Pound typified the Blues’ defensive performance on the day, not giving their opponents an inch as Carlton performed a shut-out on the Tigers.
VFLW-listed defender Chloe Dalton showed some dash from the back half as she continues to improve with every game, while captain Harvey continued her goal-kicking form.
The team wore black armbands in memory of Mika Suzuki’s mother, who passed away a few nights ago.
