Carlton will blood another debutant this weekend when Blaine Boekhorst plays his first AFL game.
The 21-year-old pacey midfielder hails from Western Australia where he played for Swan Districts and enjoyed success as a state volleyballer.
Boekhorst was recruited to Carlton with a first round draft pick, No. 19 overall, in last year's National Draft.
He will wear the No.12 jumper and says playing for Carlton is a dream come true.
"I think it's everyone's dream as a kid, as they were playing football, to play AFL," he said.
"I enjoy coming here, working, getting around the boys and the team chemistry. It's a good place to be."
Teammate Kade Simpson says he expects the mature recruit will easily adapt to the tempo of AFL football.
“He (Boekhorst) had a really good preseason," Simpson told radio station SEN.
"He brings a lot of run and dash, takes the game on, (has) long legs and good skills."
