“I was 100 per cent set on getting to the Blues.”
Jack Martin has made his way to Ikon Park after what has been a stressful off-season for the dynamic forward.
Weeks of speculation ended for the former Sun on Friday morning when Carlton selected Martin with the first pick in the pre-season draft.
With the dust settling on an eventful draft, Martin sat down with Carlton Media to share his thoughts on becoming a Blue.
“My family and I, we’re just excited and ready for the next journey, next chapter,” Martin said.
“[It was a] very stressful night, not a lot of sleep. But this morning once I got the call and it went through, it was just a sense of relief.
“It’s a big club: I think knowing a few people inside the Club definitely helped with the decision.”

For Martin, the decision to move to Carlton was two-fold: the exciting list and playing in front of capacity Navy Blue crowds.
“It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks, training alone and obviously seeing the photos for the boys and wanting to be there,” he said.
“To be honest, I just can’t wait to play in front of big crowds and sort of experience it all. I’m excited for the journey that’s ahead.”
Excited for the chance to pull on the Navy Blue for the first time, Martin is eager to run out alongside inspirations like Eddie Betts and old friend Mitch McGovern.
Martin, who has played in a number of positions throughout his career, believes he’ll be joining those two in attack in 2020 and beyond.
“I think I play my best footy up forward, pinch-hitting into the middle. I’ll play a bit of both up there, but [predominantly] definitely forward.”
‘Teaguey’ has been great, we’ve been in contact: he just wants me to play footy, play to my strengths.
