Carlton coach Mick Malthouse says he will head into Friday night’s clash with West Coast like he does every match: optimistic.
The Blues travel to Perth tomorrow ahead of the Round 2 match at Domain Stadium.
Malthouse has told radio FIVEaa that he enjoys travelling with the team and is looking forward to the challenge.
“I think our boys look forward to bonding, getting away and taking on a reasonably hostile crowd,” Malthouse said.
“We will play a couple of young players, and that’s the way to blood them, in front of hostile crowds – I’m looking forward to it.”
Meanwhile the Carlton coach has congratulated Richmond for a solid showing in the season opener.
The Blues went down by 27 points at the MCG and Malthouse says he believes it was largely because his side didn’t take its opportunities.
However he said there were positive signs, including the enthusiasm of the side’s youngest star.
“I love hearing this,” Malthouse said.
“I said to young Clem Smith, ‘How did you find it? What did you think?’ He said, ‘Just loved it – I just want to get out there again!’ He just loved the big stage.”
