Carlton will be without Simon White and Levi Casboult for Saturday night's clash with Brisbane at the Gabba.
White has been ruled out for the rest of the season after injuring his PCL.
But Head of Football Andrew McKay says the prognosis is better for Casboult.
"Levi has jarred his knee and there is no structural damage, but certainly he's pretty sore, so he is likely to miss a game or two," McKay said.
"While these injuries are really unfortunate for the players and for our team, what is does do is create an opportunity for some of our younger players to come into the side."
The injuries have seen Carlton make three changes for the match against the Lions.
David Ellard, Kristian Jaksch and Matt Dick come into the team, with White and Casboult out injured and Cameron Wood omitted.
Blaine Johnson, Brad Walsh and Matt Watson have been named as the emergencies.
