OVERVIEW
Simon White showed his versatility in 2015. A dependable backman, White also pushed into the midfield and played a shutdown role on some tough opponents.

Unfortunately knee injuries interrupted White’s season, but the 27-year-old did manage to notch up his long-awaited 50th AFL game.

Off the field, White’s reputation at Carlton as a teacher and mentor saw him honoured as the Blues’ Best Clubman for 2015 at the John Nicholls Medal count.

The award was recognition for White’s work to assist young Blues through rehabilitation – a path White is all too familiar with after recovering from a fractured neck himself in 2013.

Away from the club, White has been helping children learn to read through his work with Carlton’s High Rise Program.

HE SAID IT
“It just started off as a bit of a kick-to-kick and a bit of a footy clinic, teaching the kids about respect and a few other things. From that kick-to-kick it’s evolved to a bit of classroom and a bit of reading.

“It’s been great to see the way the kids have benefited from it and to see the confidence that they’ve shown since I’ve started has been fantastic.”

THEY SAID IT
“(White) is one of those players when you give him a job he does everything he can to get it right. He's got character and he's got a big body too, which we think helped him.”

SEASON HIGHLIGHT
White was dealt one of football’s toughest assignments in Round 16 at Subiaco, facing off with Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe. White’s competitiveness shone through, with the No. 43 holding Fyfe to just 23 disposals.
