Carlton's reigning best-and-fairest winner Bryce Gibbs will captain the Blues when they run out against Collingwood in Bendigo on Sunday.

The 25-year-old will lead the team in the absence of Marc Murphy, who is recovering from a calf strain.

Being named acting captain comes on the back of a breakthrough year for Gibbs, who led the Blues in disposals, clearances and tackles last season before winning the John Nicholls Medal.

In February this year Gibbs and Michael Jamison were named as Carlton's joint vice-captains.

The stand-in skipper says it's a huge honour.

"It's an honour and a privilege to pull on the navy blue jumper each week, so this means a lot to me – I'm really looking forward to leading the team out on Sunday," Gibbs said.

"A lot of our senior players will return to the side this week so there will be plenty of voices out there to guide the younger guys.

"What's really important about this week though is that we get our processes right – it's also a chance to go in hard against some bodies that aren't our own."

And this week you can help Bryce Gibbs recruit new Bluebaggers as part of Carlton's 5 in 5 Membership Marathon. We're aiming to get 5000 new members on board in five weeks!
